Walpole, MA - Winning hockey games was the theme again this past weekend, as the Boston Lady Whalers 2009 Elite, 2008 Elite, 2007 Elite, 2006 Elite, 2005, Elite, and U19 Elite all hit the ice at the Battle of Boston Showcase.  The 2009 Elite, 2008 Elite, and U19 Elites all came away as champions, the 2006 Elite and 2007 Elite each fell in the finals by a goal, and the 2005 Elites bowed out in the semi-finals.

Despite there being only three teams in the division at the 2009 level, the Boston Lady Whalers 2009 Elite Team pieced together a perfect 4-0 record in Round Robin, defeating the Leprechauns and New Hampshire Knights two times each.  This set them up in the finals where they would face off against the Leprechauns for the crown.  In a 30-minute mini game, it took overtime and a great team effort paired with flawless goaltending to pull off the 1-0 victory and first championship for the 2009 Elite team in their inaugural year!

The 2008 Elites went into their third tournament of the season hungry for another trophy, looking to make it their fifth of six in their two-year history.  After winning the Shamrock Elite Invite in April and falling to a strong Montreal Pride in a heartbreaker of a final in May, the 08's were hungry to add some more hardware to the shelf.  They cruised through the Round Robin, powered into playoff Sunday set to face off with Andrew Hockey from PEI, Canada for a chance at the crown.  After a relentless back and forth 30 minutes, the game was sent into overtime where the BLW 2008's powered through pressure, and came away as Battle of Boston Champions for the second straight year in as many tries.

The Boston Lady Whalers U19 Elite Team strung together a nearly perfect showing, coming off of a CCM Boston Girls Invite championship just a month ago.  It took a little bit of time to get the wheels turning, as the girls defeated the Vermont Stars by a score of 2-1 in the opener.  After they got the rust off, the team rebounded to power past the Mid-Hudson Selects by a score of 11-0.  Saturday proved to show more of the same, as the girls shutout both the Boston Lady Blues and the East Coast Militia to secure the #1 Seed heading into playoff Sunday.  In the semis, the team worked hard and grinded out a 2-0 win over the Connecticut Northern Lights which set up a much anticipated rematch with the Lady Bandits from last year's heartbreaking final.  The championship game ended up going to a shootout, and the Lady Whalers came out on the winning end of it, banking their second championship of the year!

Additionally, the Boston Lady Whalers 2006 Elite and 2007 Elite Teams both strung together undefeated weekends, before falling by a goal a piece in their championship games respectively.  The 2005 Elites bowed out in the semi-finals.  It was a great showing for our six Boston Lady Whalers teams, who combined for a 29-3-1 record on the weekend!  Great job by all of our girls, and congrats to our champions!
